2 of my books are up for grabs on Goodreads! Check it out below:
Howdy everybody! Today is a big day in the life of Big and Small, God Made Them All. Not only is it the official publication date (huge!) but it’s also day 1 of…
Big and Small: Nicaragua!
This project is very simple and yet could easily brighten the day of children in Nicaragua. But first, in an effort to be fully transparent I’ll give you a quick recap of my connection to Nicaragua.
It all started in the capital city of Tallahassee, Florida. I was a new student at Florida State University, with the world at my fingertips and a handful of “flex bucks” to spend at the university grocery store. Oh, how I miss spending my parents money 🙂
OK, I won’t give you the long story, but the short version is while I was a student there I became friends with a charismatic guy named Chris Farrington. Although he was an arch rival on the intramural flag football field, off the field he was a good friend.
During college Chris served for a summer in Nicaragua and that summer changed his life forever. That was around 2000 or 2001, and now Chris lives there with his wife and kids. They’ve been there for over a decade serving the community in various ways, spreading the good news of God’s love. You can find more information about the great work they’re doing on their blog.
One area they’re passionate about is serving the kids in the local community through Club Esperanza. The club offers educational classes to kids as young as pre-school all the way up to scholarships for high school students, plus offers space for teaching sports, music, and art. The foundation of all this goodwill is to serve kids in the community, tell them about Jesus, and show them the love of God. It’s an amazing thing.
So when I was dreaming up what this year could look like for my book, Club Esperanza is one of the first things I thought of. I thought about the kids Chris and his family serve there. About how they need God just as much as anyone else, and maybe my book will spark something in their mind, in their curiosity, that leads them to Him.
I see God clearest when I’m enjoying His creation. I’m in the woods with my dogs. I’m watching an eagle fly. Or watching snow fall. Or a dolphin swimming. Of course, panda bears being super cute. I see His creativity in nature pointing me right to Him. I want that for everyone who reads my book. Maybe a child will read it and see the illustrations and begin to wonder about God. So here’s what Big and Small: Nicaragua is:
For every 20 eBooks sold in the month of January, a print book will be donated to Club Esperanza.
It’s that simple. Could I send a book down there without asking you to help? Sure. But I love the idea of lots of people joining in to make a difference in a community. So please consider being part of Big and Small: Nicaragua, quite possibly changing the life of a child forever! If you want more info about this project or the Farrington’s work in Nicaragua, let me know.

Another “first” happened a few days ago. After arriving in Tallahassee, Florida to visit family and friends over the Christmas holidays, I got in touch with a local bookstore. Lori the manager was amazing, extremely kind, and more than happy to talk to me about my book on a shelf there. I met with her one morning and after a good conversation, history was made. I don’t think I can be more excited about it! So if you’re ever driving around wondering what to do, how about this: drive to Tallahassee and pick up a few books at My Favorite Books, one of them being my book, of course 🙂 Ok, ok, if you don’t live in the southeast that might be asking a bit much, but you can at least like them on Facebook here!
“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things were created through him and for him.” Colossians 1:16
The Bible says God created everything; big things, small things, powerful things, beautiful things, He created everything. And today, on Christmas, we celebrate part of His master plan… when he created the way for us to be with Him again in a little baby named Jesus. I hope you have a great day celebrating with family and friends and somehow, in some way, feel God’s love for you.
OK, OK, I get it. All these fans are giddy about the new “Star Wars” movie in theaters this week. But part of me likes to pretend their building excitement is for my book release in a galaxy not far, far away! In fact, it’s super close because it’s our galaxy*.
*distribution limited until Amazon begins delivering to outer space, details pending.
But just like those rabid fans having to wait a few more days, I’ve had to wait also. I really, really want this book to be out there so my friends and family and anyone else in the galaxy** can order it.
**sign up for Amazon Prime Now and get free 2-light year shipping to Mars on orders over 1,000 Mars Buggles
(1,000 Mars Buggles = $35 USD).
In the next few days, UPS should be delivering the very first copy of Big and Small, God Made Them All. I’m so excited! I’m so excited! I’m so…. scared***.
***Thank you, Jessi Spano for your caffeine pill meltdown we’ll never forget.
Once I inspect it inch by inch and dot by dot so that it’s perfect for you, I’ll be announcing it everywhere that it’s for sale. Until then, how about watching this cute puppy?
Hi there! I know the book isn’t quite available yet, but to tide you over a bit, there’s not a book trailer. OK, OK, this is intended to make you want to buy the book more than I hope you already do, just like a movie trailer is supposed to make you want to watch the movie. So in a few weeks, instead of buying a movie ticket, why not pick up a copy of Big and Small? That you you don’t have to sit in a movie theater with a bunch of people you don’t know, sit in smelly seats, and have your shoes get stuck on the sticky floors! 😉
If you had to choose one, which would be your favorite animal? The one that’s a must-see when you go to a zoo, or a safari ride, or if someone gave you one as a gift!
On land, mine is an elephant.
In the ocean, I love dolphins.
At home, beagles.
There are so many different creatures to choose from, so whichever is yours, I hope you’re able to see one soon!
Making progress on the book today! Illustrator Laura sent some of the final art, and I’m all-
I can’t wait to show you the illustrations. For a sneak peak, click here. They are SO cute, awfully adorable, and I just want to hug the little animals and name them and take them home to play with my pups! More info coming soon!
