Download the eBook in January and brighten the day of a child in Nicaragua

Howdy everybody! Today is a big day in the life of Big and Small, God Made Them All. Not only is it the official publication date (huge!) but it’s also day 1 of…

Big and Small: Nicaragua!

This project is very simple and yet could easily brighten the day of children in Nicaragua. But first, in an effort to be fully transparent I’ll give you a quick recap of my connection to Nicaragua.

It all started in the capital city of Tallahassee, Florida. I was a new student at Florida State University, with the world at my fingertips and a handful of “flex bucks” to spend at the university grocery store. Oh, how I miss spending my parents money 🙂

OK, I won’t give you the long story, but the short version is while I was a student there I became friends with a charismatic guy named Chris Farrington. Although he was an arch rival on the intramural flag football field, off the field he was a good friend.

During college Chris served for a summer in Nicaragua and that summer changed his life forever. That was around 2000 or 2001, and now Chris lives there with his wife and kids. They’ve been there for over a decade serving the community in various ways, spreading the good news of God’s love. You can find more information about the great work they’re doing on their blog.

One area they’re passionate about is serving the kids in the local community through Club Esperanza. The club offers educational classes to kids as young as pre-school all the way up to scholarships for high school students, plus offers space for teaching sports, music, and art. The foundation of all this goodwill is to serve kids in the community, tell them about Jesus, and show them the love of God. It’s an amazing thing.

So when I was dreaming up what this year could look like for my book, Club Esperanza is one of the first things I thought of. I thought about the kids Chris and his family serve there. About how they need God just as much as anyone else, and maybe my book will spark something in their mind, in their curiosity, that leads them to Him.

I see God clearest when I’m enjoying His creation. I’m in the woods with my dogs. I’m watching an eagle fly.  Or watching snow fall. Or a dolphin swimming. Of course, panda bears being super cute. I see His creativity in nature pointing me right to Him. I want that for everyone who reads my book. Maybe a child will read it and see the illustrations and begin to wonder about God. So here’s what Big and Small: Nicaragua is:

For every 20 eBooks sold in the month of January, a print book will be donated to Club Esperanza.

It’s that simple. Could I send a book down there without asking you to help? Sure. But I love the idea of lots of people joining in to make a difference in a community. So please consider being part of Big and Small: Nicaragua, quite possibly changing the life of a child forever! If you want more info about this project or the Farrington’s work in Nicaragua, let me know.

Do you have a favorite?

If you had to choose one, which would be your favorite animal? The one that’s a must-see when you go to a zoo, or a safari ride, or if someone gave you one as a gift!

On land, mine is an elephant.

Sumatran elephant, (Elephas maximus sumatrensis) a member of Flying Squad in Tesso Nilo National Park, Riau, Indonesia

In the ocean, I love dolphinsdolphin

At home, beagles.

There are so many different creatures to choose from, so whichever is yours, I hope you’re able to see one soon!

It’s about the world around us

You may be wondering what my book is about. Well, I’m keeping it under wraps for the most part, but I’ll say this: behind all the amazing things we see in the world, there’s an artist. From ladybug_adult_2something as tiny as a lady bug to as large as the Atlantic Ocean, there’s a creator that made it all. This book touches on God’s creativity in nature; things we experience that can only have come from an amazingly creative artist. That’s part of who God is, and I think this book will present it in a way that is fun for young readers and parents, too. Or if you’re an uncle looking to be “the cool uncle,” this book will help you achieve that goal! At least I hope it does, because I’m also trying to be the cool uncle. Every. Day. Of. My. Life.
